This sampler was made in Scotland and includes many of the traditional motifs associated with sampler-making in this region. Firstly, Janet has included many initials of family members. However, the initials at the centre – G R 3 – refer to the then reigning monarch, King George 111. The flowering tree, little black dogs, evergreen trees, crowns, illuminated letters and a colour scheme that is primarily red and green, are all characteristic of Scottish samplers.”
Stitches used are: cross, double running, back and eyelet.
On 35 count linen it will measure approximately 15.5” x 14.75” when completed, very close to the size of the original.
Recommended for all skill levels.
